Handgun Lessons for Michigan Hunters, Lansing Area
Plenty of Michigan hunters own a handgun that rides along all season and gets shot twice a year. A private lesson fixes the part that matters in the field: one accurate shot, from the holster you actually wear, without warming up first.
A sidearm you can hit with
Range habits flatter everyone: a slow string at a comfortable distance after ten warm-up rounds. The field gives you one cold shot, in gloves and a coat, with your pulse up. The lesson is built around that shot.
You work on grip and trigger press until the first round goes where you looked, on drawing safely from a field holster or chest rig, and on finding the distance where your hits stop being reliable. Knowing that number is worth more than a new gun.
Carrying a pistol in the field
When and how you may carry or use a handgun while hunting is set by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, and it differs by season and by whether you hold a concealed pistol license. Those rules change, so read the current regulations rather than trusting a summary, this one included.
If a license is the piece you are missing, that is the one-day Michigan CPL class, not a lesson.
Coached by someone who shoots on a timer
Marlo Christian is a USPSA A-class competitor, which means his own shooting is scored for accuracy and time most weekends. That is the useful thing to borrow for a season: someone who can watch three shots and tell you which habit is costing you the hit.

Hunters: questions
Is this a hunter safety course?
No, this is not a hunter safety course and it does not count toward a hunter education certificate. Hunter education is run through the Michigan DNR. This is a private shooting lesson on handgun fundamentals.
Can I bring the handgun I hunt with?
Bring the handgun and holster you actually carry in the field. Tell Marlo what it is when you book, revolver or semi-auto, so the lesson is planned around it.
Do I need a concealed pistol license to take a lesson?
No. Private lessons don't require one. If you want the license as well, the one-day Michigan CPL class covers the state-required course and the county paperwork.
How do I pay for a private lesson?
After you book, you get an order number and Venmo payment instructions. Send the payment to @Marlo-Christian with the order number in the note so it matches your booking.
Do I need my own pistol and ammunition?
Bring them if you have them. If you don't, get in touch before class and Marlo will sort you out. Plenty of people take the class before they own anything.
