The class
One day. The whole job done.
Michigan's concealed pistol license course, run the way a firefighter runs a scene — no wasted motion, nothing skipped.
Morning — the law, in plain English
Michigan pistol law, where you can and can't carry, use of force, and safe storage — taught straight, with real scenarios instead of legalese.
Afternoon — live fire, coached
Range time with an A-class competitor watching your grip, stance, and trigger. You shoot your qualification with coaching, not a stopwatch.
Before you leave — paperwork, handled
Certificate in hand and the county application walked through step by step, so the only thing left is the clerk's office and the wait.
Why train here
Taught by a shooter, not a slideshow
Plenty of CPL classes are eight hours of PowerPoint and a box of ammo. Marlo Odus is a USPSA A-class competitor who shoots matches most weekends and a Lansing Fire Department engineer who's spent his career staying calm while things go wrong. That's who's standing next to you on the line.
His whole training philosophy fits in one of his own posts: shooting a match will show your deficiencies — it gives you a base point on what needs practice. The class works the same way. You leave knowing exactly where you stand and exactly what to work on.

Pricing
$120. Everything in.
One flat price for the full state-required course — no gear fees, no surprise add-ons at the door.

Back 2 Basics is exactly what it sounds like
Marlo Odus drives fire engines for the Lansing Fire Department, works medical calls as an EMT, and spends his weekends shooting USPSA matches at an A-class level. The name he picked for his company is the whole philosophy: get the fundamentals right — grip, stance, trigger, judgment — and everything else follows.
What started as a hobby turned into a business, with his wife and the crew at Not Just Guns in Lansing backing him from day one. Now the same guy who competes on Sunday teaches the class on Saturday — new shooters welcome, nerves and all.
“Such a blessing — what started off as a hobby turned into a business.”
